We welcome the silent heroes who want to work hard and make people smile without looking for credit or recognition.

Volunteer responsibilities may include serving meals, washing dishes and tables, cleaning, organizing, taking out the trash, and more. Above all, volunteers must be willing to have fun.

If you enjoy cooking and have a specific meal that you want to serve to about 100 of our guests, let us know! We will work with you to make it happen.

Our community center is a safe space for all those that come here and therefore, to respect their privacy, we ask that cell phones stay away during your time volunteering with us.

JOY is not currently able to provide Community Service Hours.

For Insurance reasons, individuals under 16 are not allowed in the kitchen without pre-approval and Adult Supervision & volunteers must be at least 18 to be working with equipment.

If you are interested in volunteering please call (252) 561-7519 between 8:30am & 10am Monday- Friday.

We can't wait to have you as a part of our volunteer team!

We've been serving soup in Greenville for over 40 years.

JOY Soup Kitchen was formed when Frances White, the director of the original Greenville  Soup Kitchen, serving at The Mount Hermon Lodge, decided to retire. It was then that The Greenville Soup Kitchen joined forces with Barbara Taft and Jean Dawson who were serving meals at York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in west Greenville. Nancy Singleton suggested the name of Jesus Others and You.  In 1995, we moved to the JOY Community Building  at 700 Albemarle Avenue.
